We aim for an environment which enables and encourages all members of the community to aim for excellence. For our children to gain the greatest benefit from their education it is vital that they attend regularly and children should be at school, on time, every day the school is open unless the reason for the absence is unavoidable.
Punctuality
The school doors open at 8:45am so that children are in classrooms, ready to start their lessons, promptly at 8:55am. Pupils enter from the side doors adjacent to the playground and school staff monitor their arrival.
It is very important that pupils arrive on time to ensure that no part of their learning is missed and to ensure a smooth transition into the school day.
Punctuality is crucial to your child’s education and development of good habits. It is the parent’s responsibility. Children who arrive late are missing out on valuable learning time.
Pupils arriving late must go to the main reception accompanied by their parent/carer, who will be asked to sign the late book. We request that any medical or dental appointments are made outside of school time wherever possible.
Attendance
First Day Absence
Parents are required to contact school within half an hour on the first day of their child’s absence to avoid school contacting them. All calls are logged.
At Corpus Christi School, we reward and promote good attendance on a daily, weekly and termly basis. We have happy, engaged pupils who want to come to school and are keen to learn. Our next goal is to exceed national averages and continue to make yearly improvements.
Attendance is a key whole-school priority: it has a direct relationship with the attainment of individuals and groups of students and the standards thereby achieved by the school.
All pupils of statutory school age who are registered at a school must attend regularly, in line with the relevant legislation (Education (Pupil Registration) (England) Regulations 2016).
Permitting unauthorised absence from school is an offence and parents may be reported to the education authority if problems cannot be resolved by agreement. School-age pupils are persistent absentees if they miss more than 10% of their possible sessions in a school year.
